Alreta Shearer-Sonlin

About Me

Alreta Shearer-Sonlin holds a Certificate in Principalship, a Master’s Degree in Adult Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, an Associate Degree in Agricultural science and a Teaching Diploma in Education. She is a proud graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the College of Agriculture Science and Education (CASE). In these institutions of learning she has gained a wealth of knowledge that she has been building on through experience and practice to bring about meaningful change in her students, equipping them to be 21st century learners. She has been helping both adults and children to achieve their academic success over the years.
Alreta likes to incorporates new technological learning tools in her lessons that often excite her students to want to learn and to become interactive learners and critical thinkers. She is a motivated and a highly result driven educator with over twenty years of teaching experience in the sciences. Repeated success in agricultural science and biology at the CSEC level. Strong expertise in planning, coordinating and executing Special Functions. A conscientious and a hard-working team player with excellent problem-solving abilities and computer skills.
Her philosophy is that education should be free for all and organized in such a way that will allow learners to develop an exploratory and discovery nature that will facilitate lifelong learning and enhance critical thinking. She is a Leader of the Westmoreland and Belmont Academy 4H club, as well as a member of a Women’s Group and Street People Feeding Programme in St. Elizabeth. She also has a passion for assisting and working with the less fortunate. She enjoys travelling, exchanging gifts, watching movies and meeting people.
